Issues Hurricane Restoration Fact Sheet
ORLANDO,
Fla., Oct. 18, 2004 – Florida Municipal Power Agency
(FMPA) released a hurricane restoration fact sheet today called
Powerful Response. The two-page fact sheet documents the emergency
response efforts of community-owned electric utilities following
recent hurricanes.
During
August and September 2004, four major hurricanes devastated
the state of Florida in a six-week period, and some of the
areas hardest hit were areas served by municipal electric
utilities. The fact sheet shows public power’s strong
response to the storms, and how by working together, community-owned
utilities equal or exceed the capabilities of even very large
utilities.
During
emergency situations, members of the Florida Municipal Power
Agency and the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA)
partner through a Mutual Aid Agreement that enables member
utilities to call on each other for emergency workers and
supplies. Florida’s public power utilities benefit from
this strong network of partners within Florida and across
the country through the American Public Power Association.
These dependable connections have created a reliable system
where member utilities both request and offer assistance.
The
Powerful Response flier was developed jointly by FMPA and
FMEA. To view a copy of the flier in Adobe PDF format, click
