FMPA
Partners with ENERGY STAR
ORLANDO,
Fla., July 16, 2004 – Florida Municipal Power Agency
(FMPA) signed a partnership agreement with ENERGY STAR®,
a government-backed program helping businesses and individuals
protect the environment through superior energy efficiency.
“FMPA
and its members recognize the importance of energy conservation
in meeting our communities’ power needs, minimizing
our customers’ power bills and conserving our natural
resources,” said FMPA’s General Manager and CEO
Roger Fontes. “Partnering with ENERGY STAR and working
together through FMPA makes it convenient and cost effective
for our members to bring the benefits of energy efficiency
to their customers.”
FMPA members
are forming a workgroup that will coordinate implementation
of ENERGY STAR programs. FMPA’s first step will be to
initiate a program called Change a Light, Change the World,
one of a wide variety of programs ENERGY STAR sponsors. The
ENERGY STAR Change a Light, Change the World campaign is a
seasonal program that challenges consumers to switch to energy
efficient lighting products that have earned the ENERGY STAR.
Florida
Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) is a wholesale power company
owned by 29 municipal electric utilities. FMPA provides economies
of scale in power generation and related services to support
community-owned electric utilities. The members of FMPA serve
approximately 1.8 million Floridians. FMPA’s members
include Alachua, Bartow, Bushnell, Chattahoochee, Clewiston,
Fort Meade, Fort Pierce, Gainesville, Green Cove Springs,
Havana, Homestead, Jacksonville Beach, Key West, Kissimmee,
Lake Worth, Lakeland, Leesburg, Moore Haven, Mount Dora, New
Smyrna Beach, Newberry, Ocala, Orlando, Quincy, St. Cloud,
