Taylor Energy Center Invites Public to Open House
Feb.
10, 2006 – Taylor Energy Center will host two
community open houses in Taylor County to share information
and receive feedback from the public about the power plant
project.
The
open houses will take place on Thursday, Feb. 16 at the
Steinhatchee Community Center, 1013 Riverside Dr. SE, and
Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Perry Woman’s Club, 502
N. Jefferson St. The public is invited to attend either open
house any time between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Since
announcing plans to build a new power plant near the city
of Perry, the plant’s owners have made a commitment
to provide information to the residents of Taylor County.
“Like any good neighbor, we want to take the time
to introduce ourselves to the residents of Taylor County
and hear their thoughts and ideas about our project,” said
Mike Lawson, project manager for Taylor Energy Center. “Just
as we’re committed to meeting the growing energy needs
of our state, we’re also committed to meeting the needs
of our community right here in Taylor County. These open
houses are a great opportunity for us to find out what is
important to our new community.”
Both open house events will be co-sponsored by The Perry-Taylor
County Chamber of Commerce and the Taylor County Development
Authority.
If members of the public are not able to attend either open
house and would like to learn more about the project, information
is available at www.taylorenergycenter.org or by calling
toll free 866 884-2230.
The
Taylor Energy Center is a state-of-the-art 800 MW power
plant to be located in Taylor County, Fla., near the city
of Perry. The plant will help meet Florida’s growing
energy demands and diversify the types of fuel that are used
to generate the state’s electricity supply. This $1.5
billion project will create 1,500 construction jobs and 180
permanent jobs. The plant will be jointly owned by four community-owned
electric utilities: Florida Municipal Power Agency, JEA,
the City of Tallahassee, Fla., and Reedy Creek Improvement
District. Additional information is available on the Internet
at www.taylorenergycenter.org.
