Public Invited to Tour Cane Island Power Park
ORLANDO,
Fla., May 7, 2008 – Owners of the Cane Island Power
Park invite members of the public to tour the facility on
May 29, 2008, to see the existing power generating units and
learn about the new unit proposed for the site.
The
tour will begin at 9 a.m. and last approximately one hour.
Tours will begin at the Intercession City Civic Center, located
at 1531 Immocalee Street, Intercession City, Fla. Participants
will be shuttled to the plant site, approximately one mile
away. Participants are strongly encouraged to RSVP for the
tour by e-mailing CaneIslandExpansion@fmpa.com or calling
the project’s telephone hotline at (321) 239-1034.
The
1,000-acre Cane Island Power Park is currently home to three
power generators that produce a total of 410 megawatts of
electricity, enough to power approximately 82,000 households.
The
plant’s owners, Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA)
and Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA), announced in January
plans to expand the facility by constructing a new, high-efficiency
electrical generator that will run on clean-burning natural
gas. The new generator is needed to fulfill customers’
growing electricity needs in an environmentally responsible
manner.
FMPA
and KUA desire an open and ongoing dialogue with the local
community about the proposed expansion. The plant tour is
one way the utilities are sharing information with the community.
To learn more about the proposed expansion, please visit FMPA’s
Web site at caneisland.fmpa.com or call the project’s
telephone hotline at (321) 239-1034.
