FMPA Awarded Grant from American Public Power Association
Orlando,
Fla., May 30, 2008 – The Florida Municipal Power Agency
(FMPA) won a grant from the American Public Power Association
(APPA) to create a project planning manual for electrical
generation projects.
FMPA
is a wholesale power agency owned by municipal electric utilities
in Florida. The Agency developed its own manual after finding
there is very little published information on the subject.
FMPA was awarded the grant to adapt the manual into a version
that all public power utilities can use. The manual will be
called the APPA Project Execution Plan.
“We’re
happy to have the opportunity to help other publicly-owned
utilities,” said FMPA’s General Manager and CEO
Roger Fontes. “It can be hard to foresee all the steps
in planning a generation project, so this manual will be a
valuable resource.”
APPA’s
Demonstration of Energy-Efficient Developments (DEED) grants
are awarded to help finance innovative projects that help
improve utilities. Established in 1980, the DEED Program encourages
projects that promote energy innovation, improve efficiencies
and lower costs of energy to public power customers. It is
also the only research and development program funded by and
for public power utilities.
FMPA
plans to complete the APPA Project Execution Plan within three
months.
