Cane Island Power Park Expansion
FMPA has expanded the Cane Island Power Park by adding a high-efficiency, natural gas-fueled generator, capable of producing 300 megawatts of electricity.
The new generating unit, known as Cane Island Unit 4, is one of the cleanest plants in Florida and one of the highest efficiency plants in the state. Cane Island Power Park is jointly owned by FMPA and Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA). The new generator is wholly owned by FMPA and operated under contract by KUA.
The 1,000-acre Cane Island Power Park is located near Intercession City in northwest Osceola County, Fla. The site is home to four generating units with a combined capacity of 735 megawatts.
The expansion cost approximately $479 million. Construction began in spring 2009, and commerical operation is began on July 12, 2011.
