Temporary Traffic Increase Expected Near Cane Island Power Park

Construction of the new Cane Island Unit 4, a natural gas-fueled power generating unit, is expected to temporarily increase traffic near the Cane Island Power Park, located near Intercession City, Fla., in northwest Osceola County. Traffic in the area is expected to be somewhat elevated from May 2009 through September 2010, but the project partners are taking steps to minimize impacts on local residents.

Truck deliveries to the site begin this month and will increase throughout the summer months, then decrease substantially in October. Then, beginning in October, the number of temporary construction workers at the site will increase, peaking in approximately July 2010. All construction-related traffic will be greatly reduced from autumn 2010 through the anticipated completion of construction in summer 2011.

Routing of the delivery trucks is being carefully planned to minimize the impact to local residents. Residents living on or near the half-mile stretch of Old Tampa Highway between 17-92 and the Cane Island Power Park may encounter heavier than normal traffic during the time period listed above. To minimize impact on Intercession City, construction deliveries will be restricted from using Tallahassee Boulevard, as well as the stretch of Old Tampa Highway east of Montzen Road. We appreciate your patience and consideration as we work to construct this important new facility.
